Scrambling

This activity has had a really positive impact on me in the last 4 years. It puts you into some of the most exciting mountaineering positions you can find in stunning locations like Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. All our courses are bespoke and are planned around your needs and areas which you may wish to work in. The more you tell us the better we are able to give you a fantastic experience.

Introduction to scrambling

I can’t recommend this enough to you – if you have done a good deal of walking and perhaps used your hands at times over more complex ground then you are ready for the next step. The course will introduce you to some additional equipment necessary for when the terrain becomes a little steeper. This is a chance to experience the crossover, when walking suddenly needs both hands and a different approach. You can experience some great positions and set foot where you never thought possible. It’s a truly fantastic activity which will leave you wanting to come back for more.

Intermediate scrambling

So you might have some rope skills already, or even been out with friends who have used a rope with you, over grade 2 scrambling terrain. You now want to take more of a lead role and access some classic routes making greater use of a rope. It’s all about making good judgements and keeping your partner or partner’s safe. You will be deciding when to short rope your partner and or when it is more appropriate to use direct and indirect delay techniques.

Advanced scrambling

You are aspiring to operate at the hardest level of scrambling, where at times it will feel more like rock – climbing, you will certainly be asking to be put on belay. The course will cover the placing of climbing protection like wire and hexes and the building of belays used by climbers. You will be moving across all types of terrain testing your full range of skills including spotting, short roping and pitching. The course will also include descending routes and setting up abseils.
